Police arrest suspect accused of murdering taxi cab driver at Casino Arizona parking lot
Officers with the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Police Department have arrested a suspect accused of murdering a taxi cab driver in the parking lot of Casino Arizona.
Police say the suspect — who was not identified by police as of Tuesday afternoon — is accused of killing the cab driver, Hilario Mendoza, in the casino’s parking lot near McKellips Road and 92nd Street before taking the vehicle at about 11:08 p.m. on Aug. 21.
Joseph Orozco, a Department spokesman, said in a written statement that the suspect drove to the area of Gilbert Road and Oak Street where they were later found and arrested.
Orozco didn’t say which charges the suspect was booked on or when their next scheduled court appearance was.
A GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses has been started on behalf of Mendoza and had already surpassed its $10,000 goal with $11,535 donated as of Tuesday afternoon.
