New Orleans, USA — Police arrested Uber driver Ahmad Ahmad after he fired shots at passengers following an altercation.
According to reports, the 53-year-old driver picked up two passengers at a bar in downtown New Orleans Sunday. The passengers asked the driver to drive them to Kenner, a nearby city in Jefferson Parish.
However, the driver allegedly took across the Mississippi River. The passengers insisted he was driving in the wrong direction, prompting an argument between him and the riders.
He then stopped the car and as the argument continued, one of the passengers called both the police and another Uber.
When the new driver arrived, the passengers got into the second car. However, Ahmad forcibly opened the passenger door and removed the car key from ignition.
Ahmad and one of the passengers got into a “physical altercation,” according to police.
The suspect then returned to his car, grabbed a gun and began shooting at the passengers. The passengers ran away for safety while Ahmad drove away from the scene.
He returned later to the crime scene where police arrested him on the spot.
Ahmad was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, theft and illegal use of weapons. It is unclear if he has an attorney.
