Taxi driver dead, 2 passengers injured after wrong-way crash (Chicago, IL)

Chicago, USA — A horrifying crash on I-55 claimed the life of a taxi driver after a red Nissan traveled the wrong way on the Stevenson Expressway.

The incident allegedly happened around 4:20am. Adelaido Torres, the 33-year-old driver of the Nissan, apparently was heading north in the southbound lanes.

Subsequently, Mr. Torres collided with 57-year old taxi driver Imtiaz M. Biag. Both drivers were dead on the scene, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

Furthermore, the 2 passengers in the taxi sustained critical injuries due to the crash. Police took them to Mount Sinai Hospital to receive proper medical treatment.

Additionally, police have not yet confirmed if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Sheriff James Mendrick stated, “Investigators have worked straight through the night and morning and are conducting interviews and handling other facets of the investigation.

“We are working hand and hand with the DuPage County Coroner’s Office and the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.”

Southbound lanes were closed at Kedzie Avenue for several hours while authorities investigated.
