Iqaluit, Canada — Getting around Iqaluit in a cab is now made easier after the city’s largest taxi company, Caribou Cabs, launched its very own mobile app.
A taxi-app company called Mega Taxi managed to finally polish the app after two extensive years of research and testing. The app is designed to let customers book for taxis, choose their preferred payment method, and track their rides.
On top of that, the app also brings many unique features and functions. For instance, passengers have the option to alert the driver if they’re traveling with pets.
The app also shows real-time numbers of taxis available around the area and gives passengers an estimated arrival time of their cab.
Afterward, the passengers have the opportunity to rate their driver out of five using a star system.
The company claims that introducing the app to the public is their way of enhancing the city’s transportation. This is based on the fact that Iqaluit currently doesn’t have a public transportation system.
Furthermore, the company’s taxis are now equipped with tablets that will be receiving calls from passengers, serve as the driver’s surveillance camera, and display the customer’s destination.
“It’s more safe, it’s faster and it’s reliable,” said Omar. He also states that drivers don’t get the personal information of their passengers.
Although the app is fully functional, it is still in its “testing phase,” according to the company.
The app is currently available to download for free from the Apple Store or Google Play.
